Diving Sites – Natal Brazil

The capital of Rio Grande do Norte is a special place, and diving in Natal is a show all by itselsf. The reefs and mounds of coral, the warm Crystaline waters, depths of 14 to 35 meters and incredible marine diversity will please the novice and experienced diver alike. Generally trips include a stop by Parrachos de Maracajaú for snorkelling.

Serigado de Fora

A cliff of sandstone and large coral arches and varoious small caves. Many groupers, mutton snappers, french angelfish and trumpetfish swim by. From the surface to its top, the depth is about 18 m and, and it’s a much as 30 meters to the sandy bottom. Barracudas and spoted eagle rays are frequently found here.

Sul das Aves
Large mound of sandstone in the shape of ring, covered in colored sponges and soft corals. Abundant fauna. Rays and large schools of pelagic fish patrol the area constantly.

Arabaianinha
Covered with corals and sponges, the tall sandstone mound has a small caves and passages that are frequented by large schools of colorful fish, including queen angelfish, african pompanos, bluestriped grunts, french angelfish, twinspot bass, porkfish and rays.

Maximum depth: 14 meters

Laje da Serra
One of the best diving spots of Natal. Discovered recently, and still relatively unexplored. Sandstone coverec by algae and tubular sponges shelter large schools of crevalle jackfish, yellow jackfish and sawfishes.Nurse sharks, spotted eagle rays and turtles are also frequently found here.

Maximum depth: 20 meters

Terra Grossa
The large coral reef in the shape of a tube is slotted with fissures and holes and features a high diversity of fauna. Large schools of spotted eagle rays are readily found here.

Maximum depht: 15 meters

Panam
It earned its name for the hammerhead sharks that often appear here. The first seaplanes of the old airline that landed in the Potengi River had flat noses and short wings, like hammerhead shark.

Leme and Visgueiro
Located very near to each other and with similar features. These sites are belived to represent the outline of the beach as it was 5.000 year ago. They are coral reefs in the shape of a strip, with many crevices and holes, covered in soft corals. Turtles, moray eels and schools of multicolored fish of the reefs are found in abundance.

Maximum depth: 12 meters

Tartaruguinha
Shallow and near the coast, the sandstone shelf is covered with soft corals. Marine fauna is diversified and abundant. Moray eels, southern stingrays and spotted eagle rays is large schools of multicolored fish are commonly found among the reefs. Wrasses and parrotfish make the formations even more interesting, with their burrowing of holes and tunnels in the reef. The name comes from small turtles that frequent the area.
