Great Blue Hole in Belize: Paradise for divers

Belize, in Central America, is known for its incredible underwater landscape and also for an amazing natural formation called the Great Blue Hole.

One of the best spots for diving in the world, the Hole is a brilliant dark blue pupil 1,000 feet across surrounded by an iris of lighter blue-green, sitting in the middle of the Belize Barrier Reef 43 miles off of the country’s tropical coast.

However, the destination is indicated for experienced divers. We explain: There’s usually only enough oxygen to stay down for about 8 minutes exploring the stalactite gallery before starting the ascent back up.

Diving in Ilha Rasa

A natural paradise in Brazil, Ilha Rasa is an island located in the state of Rio de Janeiro. The place is great for divers for its depth ranges that go from about 8 meters/26 feet to around 40 meters/130 feet.

Underwater you can spot several fish species and a number of hard coral formations. Clear waters and wrecks are also interesting for visitors.

The island is home to a lighthouse, owned by the Brazilian Marine. The Ilha Rasa is located 10 kilometers from the Guanabara Bay.

The abundance of marine life makes Recife a great spot for divers. The city in northeast Brazil is called the Brazilian Venice because of its many rivers, small islands and over 50 bridges.

Recife is indicated for more experienced divers for its sea is rough are sharks may appear while diving. There are also many ancient shipwrecks, waiting for divers to explore them.

Another option for inexperienced divers is Porto de Galinhas, near Recife, with transparent waters and rich marine life to explore.

The website Telegraph Travel published on march 16th a list of the “World’s best dive sites”.

Leading the list, the Cocos Island, in Costa Rica, is a paradise underwater. The island, an inspiration for the movie Jurassic Park, is surrounded by clear waters where scalloped hammerheads and white-tip reef sharks thrive, hugging the steep drop-offs that entice experienced divers.

With beautiful sceneries, 15 destinations from Australia, Bahamas, Belize, Egypt and many other places also made it to the list.
